As we have mentioned earlier, our members do not only confine themselves to salt water fishing. This 5.02 kg Brown Trout was caught on 1 kg b/s line at Lake Purrembete in Victoria and would have been an Australian Line Class record for Peter (toungey) Thorpe (The PLATYPUS PRETEST LINE broke over the limit during testing for the claim.) Rex hunt.. eat your heart out!!!... This fish was kept, and its capture was celebrated with the odd stubbie or two. Jokes aside, captures of this kind are only possible with a lot of experience and ability which can be gained by membership of this or, in fact, most serious fishing clubs who are willing to share their knowledge. Peter also caught another trout weighing in at approximatley 4.85 kg. I guess its no wonder that he has a caravan on site at the lake for whenever he feels like freshwater fishing instead of the game fishing that used to take up all his spare time. Son Dale "The Legend" Thorpe, is determined to beat his dad one day though. In fact he has just claimed a junior Victorian record for Snapper. |

You have all heard of the big Trevally up North - Nick Falzon managed to capture one of the really huge ones on a Club trip in 1998 off Cairns. This one weighed ?? kgs and is indicative of the quality fish we manage to get on our regular club trips to different parts of the Country. Our next major trip is back to Cairns in November this year where we will go over 100 kms out to sea looking for the fish dreams are made of. We will be travelling on the 145' luxury Spirit of Freedom, skippered by the owner - Max. This type of boat is generally beyond the financial means of the average angler to hire, but with the club going up as a group and sharing the costs, it brings it back within our means. When we get to our destination, we have the option of fishing from the large boat or launching the dories and fishing the barrier reef. 10 days of this really makes you appreciate the waters of this area, and with 8 meals a day, we never go hungry. |
